Manchester United is reportedly considering a dramatic reversal in their goalkeeper department, contemplating bringing back former star David De Gea after allowing him to leave over the summer.
This decision comes amid struggles with their current goalkeeper, Andre Onana, who was signed for £48 million from Cameroon. Despite Onana’s partial redemption with a crucial penalty save, he has failed to match De Gea’s performance.
The Sun reports that United is prepared to admit their mistake and are actively pursuing De Gea’s return, despite him being without a club. De Gea, who spent twelve years at United, holds the club’s clean sheet record and made 545 appearances.
With Onana set to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations in January, United hopes De Gea will agree to a short-term return.
Additionally, they signed Altay Bayindir over the summer, but being new to the Premier League, they seek another experienced option to provide cover for Onana or even compete with him.
