For the second time, the striker has expressed frustration on social media, only to delete his post shortly after, though many fans caught it beforehand.
On Saturday morning, the Uruguayan wrote (translated): “No wonder I haven’t played more, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly…”
This cryptic comment seems to hint at reports from Portugal suggesting Liverpool would owe Benfica €5 million once Nunez reaches 50 Premier League starts — he’s currently at 49.
Arne Slot addressed these rumors in his pre-Tottenham press conference, saying: “Do you always believe what journalists say? Sometimes you should, but sometimes it’s better not to believe everything that is written about players.”
It now seems Nunez suspects he’s being benched for financial reasons, rather than based on form or tactics.

The 25-year-old’s most recent start came against Southampton, where he scored in a 3-1 win — a match that came just before crucial games against PSG and in the Carabao Cup final, during which Arne Slot opted to leave him out of the starting XI.
Whether or not finances influenced team selection remains unclear, but Slot has insisted he’s never been told which players he can or can’t choose.
Nunez’s deleted post could be seen as undermining his manager’s public comments, casting doubt on Slot’s honesty.
It’s a surprising move from a player so close to potentially winning the league, and it further fuels speculation that Nunez’s time at Anfield could be coming to an end.
