Manchester United’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres may have hit a new twist, as the striker has taken a bold stance against his current club, Sporting CP.

Following a phenomenal season with 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 matches, the 27-year-old has become one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards.

However, what was expected to be a straightforward summer exit has now evolved into a full-blown transfer saga.

According to reports, Gyokeres’ agent claimed Sporting’s president had agreed last year to allow the striker to leave for €70 million, while the president insists the only agreement was not to let him go for less than €100 million, the value of his release clause.

Gyokeres Takes a Stand Against Sporting

Amidst interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, and even Liverpool (should Darwin Núñez move to Napoli), Gyokeres has reportedly become deeply frustrated.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Swedish international has decided to boycott pre-season training** and is refusing to play for the Portuguese club again.

Could United Still Land Him?

While this development is likely to encourage his suitors, Arsenal are believed to remain front-runners due to their Champions League qualification, which Gyokeres sees as a priority.

Meanwhile, Manchester United — who are reshaping their attacking options under Ruben Amorim — continue to explore alternative targets like Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, Moise Kean, and Christopher Nkunku, who recently emerged as another potential signing.

Whether United can still turn the tide in their favour remains uncertain, but Gyokeres’ latest move has certainly added more heat to an already fiery transfer window.
