The situation worsened for the visiting team when their captain, James, received his second yellow card for a foul on Gordon 17 minutes before the end, resulting in his dismissal.
Newcastle sealed the victory with Gordon’s goal in the 83rd minute, marking Mauricio Pochettino’s team’s fifth defeat in 13 league games this season.
