Casemiro is set to depart from Manchester United in January after acknowledging that his future lies elsewhere, as revealed by 90min.

The 31-year-old, who joined amidst excitement in August 2022 from Real Madrid for a significant sum of up to £60 million, showed promise initially at Old Trafford. He notably contributed to stabilizing the midfield and clinched crucial late-winning goals, earning praise from manager Erik ten Hag. However, disciplinary issues leading to suspensions and a dip in performance coincided with the team’s deteriorating form.

Although Casemiro has been sidelined due to injury since October, there has been considerable interest from the affluent Saudi Pro League for his services, a fact disclosed by 90min in November. United seems inclined to consider bids, recognizing the chance to recoup their investment may not come again.

Sources indicate Casemiro is open to leaving United, especially considering ongoing interest from the Saudi league. While Paris Saint-Germain has also been mentioned, their adherence to Financial Fair Play regulations might hinder a competitive offer compared to the Middle Eastern interest.

A potential departure could relieve United of their highest-paid player, who earns around £300,000 weekly, and might create room on the wage bill with additional exits like Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek, Raphael Varane, and Anthony Martial.

The decision about Casemiro’s exit hinges on various factors, including the finalization of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS-led 25% investment. Ratcliffe plans to restructure the club’s internal setup upon completion, aiming to enhance the club’s business dealings.

United’s transfer strategy, particularly the substantial investment in Casemiro, has faced scrutiny among other questionable decisions. The managerial future of Erik ten Hag remains uncertain, with speculation linking Graham Potter to the role. However, any decisive moves may wait until Ratcliffe’s envisioned changes are in place, potentially allowing Ten Hag time to reverse the club’s fortunes.
