David Coote is currently under investigation for allegedly making derogatory comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and the club, as seen in a viral video circulating on social media.
The individual, believed to be the 42-year-old Premier League referee, was caught on camera making these remarks. The PGMOL has since suspended Coote pending the outcome of their investigation.
Liverpool are reportedly aware of the clips circulating online but have not yet issued an official response.
Jurgen Klopp’s view on David Coote
Jurgen Klopp appeared to find working with David Coote quite frustrating. The German coach was notably baffled by Coote’s handling of Martin Odegaard’s apparent handball during a 1-1 draw against Arsenal.
“Yes, I have seen it. I am pretty sure someone will come to explain to me why it was not a handball, but I don’t know how?” Klopp, now with Red Bull, told Sky Sports.
“I don’t say that the ref can see it because I don’t know where he was at that moment. But how can a guy in an office see that and not think it could be worth the referee taking another look?”
Klopp’s exasperation was not isolated. During a 2020 match against Burnley, Liverpool’s Andy Robertson also expressed his frustration, asking Coote, “What’s the point in having you in the middle? What’s the point? F**k me. Honestly,” as Klopp calmly added, “we have to be honest.”
