The Gunners encountered what was widely seen as a pivotal match at Old Trafford on Sunday, but any initial apprehension was dispelled by an early goal from Leandro Trossard.
Manchester United faced adversity entering the game, dealing with injuries and having to deploy their 14th different center-back pairing of the season under manager Erik ten Hag.
Although United started stronger compared to their 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace, their performance quickly declined as Trossard capitalized on Casemiro’s inability to move forward after a goal kick.
Gary Neville criticized Casemiro’s unfamiliar defensive role, asserting that the error was not due to the 32-year-old being played out of position.
“Recent criticism of Casemiro is likely to continue,” remarked the former United defender on Sky Sports.
“It was impressive from Arsenal; their fans in the corner acknowledged the challenging first 20 minutes.”
“As soon as Amrabat passed him, Casemiro should have reacted faster. You can see him jogging; he’s aware of the ball being played, and once he fails to respond, he’s in trouble.
Trossard did what skilled wingers do, making that diagonal run inside the full-back. Wan-Bissaka was caught off guard, resulting in a straightforward goal in the end.”
