Fabrizio Romano, in an exclusive interview with CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, mentioned that both the player and Chelsea have mutually agreed that it’s preferable for him to seek a move this winter.
Chalobah has been a valuable asset to Chelsea’s squad recently, but the likelihood of him securing a regular role at Stamford Bridge appears increasingly slim. Consequently, he would benefit from exploring a new challenge elsewhere.
However, Romano points out the uncertainty regarding potential suitors for the 24-year-old in January, mentioning that Bayern Munich has stopped pursuing him after showing interest towards the end of the summer transfer window.
Upon Chalobah’s potential departure, Chelsea is expected to seek a defensive replacement. Romano hasn’t specified any particular players yet, but this could change after other transfers have been finalized.
Romano stated, “Chelsea is likely to sell Trevoh Chalobah to another team for the center-back position; it seems highly probable that he seeks consistent playing time.”
Regarding Chelsea’s plans, Romano suggested, “Following that, I anticipate Chelsea attempting to secure a new center-back. They are exploring available options, but no concrete decisions have been made. They are still assessing their choices but aim to reinforce this position in 2024.”
