Reports have shed light on why Bruno Fernandes avoided a red card during the Manchester United versus Liverpool match.
Lee Dixon, providing co-commentary for the game, explained the situation, suggesting that while Fernandes was fortunate to escape a second yellow card for his challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai, it didn’t warrant a straight red.
Dixon noted that although incidents like this are often scrutinized by VAR, it didn’t intervene on this occasion. He added that if the same tackle had occurred elsewhere on the pitch and Fernandes hadn’t already been booked, he would have likely received a yellow card.
Dixon emphasized that the referee would have issued a yellow card if such a challenge had happened on the halfway line.
