Alexander Isak has thrown fresh chaos into the transfer market by openly addressing the growing speculation over his future.
The Newcastle striker – who’s pushing hard for a move to Liverpool – released a fiery statement on social media Tuesday night, claiming the club broke key “promises” made to him and declaring their “relationship can’t continue.”
Newcastle quickly hit back, expressing their disappointment in Isak’s conduct and stressing that he won’t be sold unless their “conditions” are met. They’ve already turned down Liverpool’s £110m opening bid, sticking firmly to their £150m valuation (The Guardian).
Liverpool readying another move
Following Isak’s bombshell, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Liverpool are prepared to submit a second offer for the 25-year-old if they sense an opening from Newcastle.
Jacobs explained: “Isak referenced the lack of a new contract 12 months ago as a key reason behind his desire to leave. His statement makes it clear he has no intention of reintegrating.
Liverpool are prepared to bid again if there’s encouragement. Their valuation remains around £120m, but it’s highly unlikely they’ll go near £150m – a figure they’ve never been directly quoted.”
Could Liverpool still land Isak this summer?
With the Swede insisting he sees no future at St. James’ Park, Liverpool may test Newcastle’s resolve again before the window closes.
Still, the Magpies’ stance that they’ll only sell on their terms could block any immediate deal, especially with little time left to secure a replacement.
If Liverpool don’t succeed this summer, they could revisit the move in 2026 or even wait until January, though that gap may allow time for Isak and Newcastle to patch things up – a scenario that looks increasingly unlikely right now.
Sporting director Richard Hughes will be watching closely, hoping Newcastle’s tough stance softens if the rift proves beyond repair. One thing feels almost certain: Liverpool are unlikely to walk away without at least one more attempt before the September 1 deadline.
