Arne Slot began his press conference by providing an update on six players who were at risk of missing the match against Southampton, with Alisson Becker among them.
After confirming that the Brazilian goalkeeper would not be fit for the trip to St. Mary’s, Slot was asked whether Alisson would be available for the upcoming games against Manchester City and Real Madrid.
The 46-year-old coach stated: “It’s hard to say at this point whether it will be one, two, or three days, or possibly longer. What I can say is that I don’t expect Alisson or Jota to be available for that game.”
This news is certainly concerning, as there had been hopes that Alisson would be ready after the international break, but it seems that won’t be the case.
While it’s disappointing that the 32-year-old will remain sidelined, fans can take comfort in the strong form of Caoimhin Kelleher, who has been fit and performing excellently in goal.
The fact that the team has barely missed Alisson underscores how impressive Kelleher has been, with some even calling for him to keep his place in the starting lineup.
