It’s now widely known that Liverpool have identified Martin Zubimendi as a key target for the final phase of the summer transfer window.
However, new developments indicate that the Reds still face major obstacles in securing the Real Sociedad midfielder.
Since reports emerged midweek about Liverpool’s interest in Zubimendi, rumors have been swirling with mixed messages about the 25-year-old’s possible move.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany recently shared that while Liverpool’s interest in the Spanish international is official, they have yet to start direct negotiations with Real Sociedad. The Basque club is still waiting for Zubimendi to clarify his future intentions.
Plettenberg posted on X, stating, “It’s understood that Real Sociedad has been formally informed of Liverpool’s strong interest in Martín Zubimendi.
Consequently, there are ongoing discussions between Liverpool, the player, and his representatives, with the club’s consent.”
However, he also added that “no direct talks between the clubs have taken place yet. The 25-year-old midfielder has not informed his current club of any desire to leave.”
This means Liverpool still have some work to do if they hope to bring Zubimendi to Anfield.
