Tick tock, tick tock. The countdown to the January transfer deadline continues, although this season, somewhat unusually, it falls on Monday, February 3, at 11 p.m.

As has become common under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, there hasn’t been much activity among top-flight clubs this month.

Manchester City has been an exception, spending big to address their squad’s relative lack of depth compared to their rivals.

For Liverpool, a major signing in the final days of the window would be surprising—though not entirely out of character, given their shock acquisition of Luis Díaz three years ago.

However, it seems more likely that the focus will be on outgoing transfers before the window slams shut.

That said, key players Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk—each in the final months of their contracts—are not expected to leave.

While extension talks have stalled, the trio have indicated they intend to see out their current deals at Anfield.

This month has already seen some movement. Academy goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga returned to Fluminense in Brazil, and midfielder Tom Hill joined Harrogate Town in League Two on a permanent deal.

However, Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa, who have recently seen more game time, are unlikely to depart.

Meanwhile, interest from Saudi Arabia and AC Milan in Darwin Núñez is reportedly being ignored, with no chance of a sale this month.

One decision Liverpool may face is over Tyler Morton. The 22-year-old midfielder, who has seen limited Premier League action, has hinted he may prioritize his career development and could leave if a permanent offer arises.

Any other exits are expected to be temporary. Calvin Ramsay has been recalled from his loan at Wigan Athletic and sent to Kilmarnock for the rest of the season.

Rhys Williams will remain on loan at Morecambe until summer, while Kaide Gordon has returned from Norwich City and is drawing interest from other Championship clubs.

Jayden Danns and James McConnell, who have featured for the first team recently, could also be loaned out if suitable Championship offers come in, with Danns making an impression by scoring in the FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley.

Despite heavy speculation, Liverpool have opted not to move forward with a potential £85 million deal for Alexander Isak. Instead, the club has shifted its transfer focus and funds toward other priority targets who are considered more suited to Arne Slot’s tactical plans.

“I’m ready to sign for Liverpool immediately if he’s no longer in the squad. Once that condition is met, I’d be happy to make the move to Anfield” – those are the words of top defensive target Marc Guehi, who has made it clear he’s open to joining Liverpool, but only on one condition: the departure of a key current Reds player.
