Ajax forward Brian Brobbey has disclosed that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reached out to him regarding a potential transfer to Old Trafford in 2022. Brobbey, who had successful stints under Ten Hag at Ajax, revealed that Ten Hag informed him about the financial benefits and increased earnings associated with joining Manchester United.
Despite the allure of substantial financial gains, Brobbey and his agent, Jose Fortes Rodriguez, were determined to return to Ajax.
In an interview with Der Telegraaf, Brobbey stated, “Manchester United wanted to have me, but I insisted on returning to Ajax. To make that possible, my agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even waived a hefty percentage of the sell-on clause.” The young striker emphasized their clear decision to choose Ajax over Manchester United.
Brobbey’s revelation comes after earlier reports indicating Manchester United’s interest in his services. However, he opted for a permanent return to Ajax, signing a five-year deal with the Dutch club for an initial fee of €16.35 million.
As Anthony Martial’s departure from Manchester United looms, Brobbey could be considered a potential replacement for the underperforming French forward.
