According to the Professional Game Match Officials Limited [PGMOL], “significant human error” caused the first-half strike to be disallowed.

Howard Webb might as well have kissed Darren England as call this a form for redress or punishment. How do you label something so flagrant a mistake? Guess what? Same guy calls ref’s attention a little while later and produces a still image of the Curtis Jones incident. An image clearly chosen to get a red card reaction even though the build up suggests anything but red. How could such a combination of obviously deliberate errors not result in a corruption investigation? How can Web think that this slap on the toe will change things? Is the punishment a deterrent? The real issue is Howard Webb.
