Manchester United legend Paul Scholes expressed his admiration for Amad Diallo after the midfielder’s stellar performance in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
Diallo, an Ivorian international, was handed the crucial number six role, filling in for an unfit Casemiro in the high-stakes match.
Diallo delivered an exceptional display, registering 37 touches and completing 93% of his passes, successfully connecting on 25 out of 27 attempts.
Defensively, he excelled as well, winning two duels, making two clearances, performing two tackles, and blocking a shot. His composure under pressure was evident, losing possession only three times throughout the game.
Following United’s 2-1 triumph, Scholes praised Diallo on Instagram, likening the 27-year-old to a “prime Gattuso” for his determination and grit on the big stage.
Diallo’s rise has been remarkable. Signed on loan from Fiorentina for €10 million last summer, he initially played as a left-back under Erik ten Hag before his midfield potential was recognized, earning him a more central role.
Though his early performances were inconsistent, Diallo’s displays against top teams like Arsenal and Newcastle secured his spot in the starting XI for the final.
His outstanding performance in the final has raised questions about his future at the club. With Casemiro no longer at his peak, Manchester United may consider activating Diallo’s €20 million buyout clause to secure his services permanently.
Moving on from Casemiro to accommodate Diallo could also align with United’s long-term plans.
Even if United decides not to retain him, Diallo’s future in the Premier League appears promising, with clubs like Fulham and Crystal Palace reportedly showing interest.
