Liverpool are planning to offer a player plus cash deal to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
According to Teamtalk, the Reds are preparing a £50 million offer plus goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to secure the English winger.
Liverpool is gearing up for a busy summer transfer window under manager Arne Slot, who is set to receive strong backing from the club as he aims to make personnel changes.
The Reds need to strengthen several positions this summer, including their attack and defense.
Newcastle United winger Gordon has become a significant target for Liverpool. The interest has increased due to Newcastle’s need to sell players to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The Magpies have already agreed to let Yankuba Minteh leave for Brighton to raise funds and meet financial regulations. Gordon could be another player sold under this strategy, with Liverpool keen on acquiring him.
Currently on international duty for England at the Euros, Gordon impressed Gareth Southgate after a strong Premier League season, where he was involved in 21 goals, scoring 11 and providing 10 assists.
According to the report, Gordon is open to joining Liverpool, despite their rivalry with his former team, Everton.
Liverpool is prepared to make a significant offer for Gordon, valuing Kelleher between £25 million-£35 million. Thus, a deal involving Kelleher plus £50 million in cash would cost Liverpool around £75 million-£85 million.
Although Eddie Howe is determined to keep the pacey winger, he may be forced to let him go. Newcastle’s need for a new goalkeeper to challenge Nick Pope could be met by including Kelleher in the deal, making it beneficial for all parties, though Newcastle would be reluctant to lose a player of Gordon’s quality.
