Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly decided to join Real Madrid, with the Liverpool star set to move on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Speculation about Alexander-Arnold’s potential transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu has been ongoing for over a year.

Now, it is believed that the 26-year-old has reached an agreement on personal terms with Carlo Ancelotti’s side and will sign a five-year contract with the Spanish giants.

Liverpool had made several attempts to extend their vice-captain’s contract, but he was already determined to join Madrid, forcing the club to plan for his departure.

At his new club, Alexander-Arnold will compete with Dani Carvajal for the right-back position, though he is expected to become the first-choice option next season.

He will leave Anfield after 21 years, having made 349 appearances, scored 22 goals, provided 87 assists, and won eight major trophies.

Liverpool is already searching for a replacement, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong emerging as a leading candidate.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen discussed Alexander-Arnold’s possible exit on TalkSport, weighing the pros and cons.

He acknowledged that the defender has already achieved everything with the club and could retire as a legend. However, he also pointed out that Liverpool remains one of Europe’s top teams, making the decision a difficult one.
