Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold faced harsh criticism from Roy Keane for his poor defensive performance during the 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Anfield.
The Reds were held to a draw in what was a thrilling encounter. The first half saw United successfully containing Liverpool’s in-form attack while creating several dangerous counterattacking opportunities.
The second half opened up significantly, with chances at both ends. United took the lead in the 52nd minute when Lisandro Martinez fired the ball into the net after a pass from Bruno Fernandes. Alexander-Arnold was at fault in the build-up, losing possession that led to the goal.
Liverpool responded quickly, with Cody Gakpo equalizing through an exceptional finish that left Matthijs de Ligt embarrassed. The home side then went ahead in the 70th minute when Mohamed Salah converted a penalty.
Despite looking set for victory, Liverpool conceded again late in the game. A cross from Alejandro Garnacho found Amad Diallo, who finished past Alisson to equalize, with Alexander-Arnold once again out of position.
Alexander-Arnold, rumored to be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, had a poor outing, with United’s key chances primarily originating from his side.
Beyond his involvement in the conceded goals, he was frequently exposed defensively during the first half.
At half-time, Roy Keane criticized the Liverpool right-back on Sky Sports, saying:
“Trent Alexander-Arnold has been all over the place defensively. His defending has been schoolboy stuff. He’s got to do better.
“They’re talking about him going to Real Madrid. The way he’s defending, he’s going to Tranmere Rovers after this. He’s got to do better.”
