Following their controversial error during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at Tottenham, under-pressure officials Darren England and Dan Cook have been removed from this weekend’s Premier League fixtures.
The referees’ body PGMOL has decided to drop the duo from top-flight duty after their incorrect disallowance of Luis Diaz’s goal for offside. Diaz was clearly played onside by the outstretched leg of Tottenham’s Cristian Romero.
During the incident, VAR England and assistant Cook mistakenly believed that the on-field decision was onside and did not correct the error.
Liverpool has been incensed by the decision and has demanded the release of the audio that led to this monumental mistake.
Amid this ongoing controversy, the PGMOL has chosen to remove England and Cook from the final round of Premier League fixtures before this month’s international break. This includes the standout fixture between Arsenal and Manchester City on Sunday, where John Brooks will be the VAR, with Darren Cann serving as his assistant VAR.
