Cole Palmer of Chelsea scored an injury-time penalty to earn a point against former team Manchester City, setting up an immediate Premier League classic.
After referee Anthony Taylor controversially gave Erling Haaland a penalty, the visitors took the lead. Chelsea nearly instantly leveled the score thanks to a header from Thiago Silva at a corner. Sterling’s back-post cross from Reece James gave them the lead.
But Manuel Akanji’s header in first-half stoppage time swiftly brought the hosts back to equal footing. Haaland’s second goal came after the break when he slid in to finish Julian Alvarez’s cross, but Nicolas Jackson, who had been playing well, was buried by Chelsea in response.
