Even if Klopp is winning everything right now, the German strategist is having trouble with something that is getting closer to him. The issue is with Fabio Carvalho, who hasn’t accomplished much while on loan at RB Leipzig thus far—possibly less than he did during his rookie season at Liverpool.
Despite scoring three goals, the Portuguese attacking midfielder found it difficult to play for minutes in his debut season on Merseyside, totaling just 638, or the equivalent of seven full games. Out of Liverpool’s 51 games this season, he has only started six. However, Klopp claimed in April that “Fabio is the player who has impressed me the most” in May and that Carvalho was training “exceptionally.” His steadfast dedication to effort and unmerited training will set him up for a fantastic career. Everything is dependent upon the player’s response should I decide not to play him or keep him on the team. He had never before replied to me in such a continuous manner. Wonderful.
Former youth player for Fulham Carvalho spent the full season on loan in the Bundesliga in an effort to improve as a player for Liverpool when he returned. He hasn’t been a replacement in the past four Leipzig games, and he has only made two starts in 13 games overall. If this keeps up, Klopp and company are going to have serious issues. The 21-year-old’s development would be hampered by a second season as a benchwarmer, and it would probably be necessary for him to go on loan for another year in 2024–2025. According to rumors, considering the current situation, Liverpool is expected to investigate exercising their recall option, which is available for use during the January transfer window.
Leipzig is said to have paid a price to temporarily obtain Carvalho, so it will take some negotiating to reduce the deal. Not everything can be as simple as informing Leipzig that the loan is being canceled. Furthermore, it is doubtful that the Germans will wish to give up on their goals of winning the Champions League, Bundesliga, and DFB Pokal titles.
