Football Insider has been informed by sources that the Premier League would not allow the match between Liverpool and Tottenham to be rerun.
On Saturday, September 30, the Reds were defeated 2-1 by Spurs, however the Reds were incensed by a mistaken VAR call that resulted in Luis Diaz’s goal.
The manager of Liverpool used his Wednesday press conference to demand a rematch of the Premier League match against Tottenham after the video assistance referee incorrectly disallowed Diaz’s goal.
Following the game, the PGMOL accepted the mistake and said that the refereeing standards “fell short of expectations.”
Since then, the incident’s recorded audio has been made public, exposing a serious misunderstanding between referee Simon Hooper and the VAR officers.
The club will “explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution,” according to a statement released by Liverpool on Sunday.
The Premier League has informed Football Insider that they have no chance of considering a rematch of the match, even though the Merseyside club wants the matter to be escalated.
Liverpool suffered their first Premier League defeat of the year, but Tottenham overtook them in the standings with three points, moving them up to second place.
Klopp has demanded that the VAR process be changed by the PGMOL and that replays be taken into account for such significant mistakes.
“I would say replay if that happened again. Or, even better than a replay, solve it right then and there. Common sense,” the Liverpool manager remarked.
