The manager of England, Gareth Southgate, has backed Harry Maguire following more criticism following Tuesday night’s 3-1 victory against Scotland.
After coming off the bench at halftime, the Manchester United player scored an own goal in the second half, which sparked more discussion about the centre-back, who has struggled in his career over the past two seasons.
After the game, Southgate claimed that he had never saw a player handled with such care and that the criticism leveled at the defense was absurd.
Tim Spiers quoted England manager Gareth Southgate as saying, “It’s a result of ridiculous treatment of him for a long time.” It’s ridiculous; not by Scottish supporters nor by our own experts, pundits, or anybody, have I ever seen a player treated in this manner.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” the speaker said.
