Liverpool have been thrashed by PSV, and Arne Slot has now received a harsh warning about the major decision he needs to make if he hopes to protect his job.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is facing mounting pressure after another damaging defeat, and he’s now been cautioned about a crucial decision he must make if he wants to safeguard his future at Anfield.

Following the disastrous 3–0 loss to Nottingham Forest, Liverpool returned home hoping for a strong response in their vital Champions League clash with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.

But things unraveled almost immediately. Just minutes into the match, captain Virgil van Dijk conceded a baffling penalty after an unusual handball in the area.

Former Tottenham star Ivan Perisic calmly converted from the spot, putting PSV in front early.

Liverpool did manage a swift reply, with Dominik Szoboszlai leveling the score roughly ten minutes later, briefly lifting the mood inside Anfield.

However, the optimism quickly evaporated. In the second half, Guus Til restored PSV’s lead, before Couhab Driouech scored twice, sealing a crushing night for the Premier League champions.

The result meant Liverpool had conceded three or more goals for the third game in a row, marking a grim stretch of nine defeats in their last twelve matches across all competitions.

While many issues have been highlighted by fans and analysts, one player came under especially sharp scrutiny: Cody Gakpo. Facing his former team, the attacker was heavily criticized for yet another quiet and unconvincing display.

Supporters took to social media to vent their anger, with many demanding he be dropped from the starting lineup. One frustrated fan wrote on X that Gakpo “is not a good enough footballer” for Liverpool, claiming he only ever scores from simple chances and has consistently failed to impress.

Slot, whose contract runs until 2027, now finds himself fighting to steady the ship despite the club investing over £400 million in new signings during the summer.

Liverpool, expected to dominate this season, are instead suffering one of the worst stretches in their recent history — prompting widespread debate about Slot’s job security and possible successors.

After the Nottingham Forest defeat, journalist Fabrizio Romano clarified that Liverpool have not approached any alternative managers.

However, he added that the board expects immediate improvement. They want “different results and different performances” and believe the current standards fall far short of what they envisioned when Slot was appointed.
