Rasmus Højlund Ends Goal Drought in Style as United Cruise Past Leicester

Manchester United forward Rasmus Højlund finally broke his long goal drought in emphatic fashion during Sunday night’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.

After going 21 games without scoring, the Danish striker found the net, bringing relief to both himself and his teammates.

United captain Bruno Fernandes was thrilled to see Højlund back on the scoresheet but jokingly admitted he hopes the 21-year-old’s scoring streak doesn’t continue—at least not next week. Højlund will be leading Denmark’s attack against Fernandes’ Portugal in their upcoming international match.

“It was very important for us because, for strikers, scoring goals means everything. They want to feel involved in the main action,” Fernandes said after the game.

“I’m very happy for him, but I hope he doesn’t score again in the next two weeks because he’s playing against me in the national team. When he returns to United, then he can start scoring again!”

Despite facing criticism for managing just three Premier League goals this season, Højlund has shown promise in recent matches.

His movement, work rate, and link-up play have been impressive, and now that he has ended his drought, fans are hopeful he can build momentum.

United manager Rúben Amorim also praised Højlund’s performance, emphasizing the difficulty of his goal.

“It was a tough goal with difficult control using his right foot. It’s unfortunate we now have a break for the national teams because we were building confidence,” Amorim said.

Former United striker and current Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy also acknowledged Højlund’s impact, recognizing his importance to United’s attacking play.

With Højlund finally back among the goals, United fans will be hoping this marks the beginning of a strong run of form.

Breaking a 21-game drought must be a huge relief for Højlund and the team. His work rate and movement have been valuable, but now he has the goal to back it up.

Bruno Fernandes’ joke about hoping Højlund doesn’t score against Portugal adds an interesting subplot to their upcoming clash. Do you think this could be the turning point for Højlund at Old Trafford?
