Rúben Amorim has officially resigned as Manchester United’s head coach following another disappointing result. Speaking in an emotional post-match press conference, the Portuguese manager admitted he had already made up his mind before kickoff, stating, *“It was win or leave, and now it’s happening.”*

Since taking charge in November 2024, Amorim struggled to turn things around, with United managing just 15 points from 15 games under his leadership. Issues with inconsistency, dressing room unrest, and underwhelming performances led to mounting pressure from both fans and pundits.

Amorim’s Farewell Message

Despite his abrupt departure, Amorim expressed gratitude to the club, players, and fans:

> *“Manchester United is a fantastic club, one of the biggest in the world, and it has been an honor to coach here. I want to thank the board for the opportunity, the players for their efforts, and most importantly, the fans for their passion. I’m sorry that I couldn’t take this team where it needs to be. I wish the club all the best moving forward.”*

United’s Search for a Caretaker Manager

With Amorim stepping down, Manchester United is now focused on appointing a caretaker manager for the remainder of the season. Among the candidates being considered:

Ruud van Nistelrooy – The former United striker, who had a successful managerial stint at PSV Eindhoven, is currently the frontrunner.

-Xavi Hernández– Recently departed from Barcelona, he could bring an attacking philosophy to Old Trafford.

Graham Potter– Known for his tactical adaptability and player development, the former Brighton and Chelsea boss is also in contention.

A Club in Crisis – What’s Next for United?

Amorim’s resignation marks yet another managerial casualty in United’s post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, with the club having cycled through multiple head coaches, including David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, José Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, and now Amorim.

With repeated managerial changes failing to bring stability, many believe the club’s problems run deeper, pointing to issues with ownership, recruitment, and overall structure. The upcoming appointment will be crucial in determining whether United can regain its status among Europe’s elite or continue its downward spiral.

Who should take over next? Is changing the manager really the solution, or does Manchester United need a complete overhaul?
