Whether Virgil van Dijk remains at Liverpool beyond this season or not, it seems the club is already preparing for the day their captain bids farewell to Anfield.
As of now, the Dutch defender has yet to sign a new contract, and there has been no indication of whether he will leave at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Liverpool may have already lined up a potential replacement, with sources indicating “serious interest” in Nottingham Forest center-back Murillo.
Despite recently extending his contract with Forest until 2029, the 22-year-old Brazilian is reportedly open to a move if the clubs can agree on a fee. However, Forest are unwilling to negotiate for anything less than £80 million.
Adding to the competition, Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain have also expressed interest in Murillo.
While Forest would prefer to keep a key player in their squad, they are expected to demand a significant transfer fee if it becomes clear he wants to leave.
For now, van Dijk remains Liverpool’s captain, but with major squad changes on the horizon, his future remains uncertain.
