Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has criticized Andy Robertson for his recent poor performances, particularly after costly errors led to Liverpool dropping points against Fulham on Saturday.
The problems began early for Robertson when he was on the receiving end of a strong challenge from Fulham’s Issa Diop, a tackle many felt deserved a red card.
However, neither the referee nor VAR intervened. Soon after, Robertson’s defensive misjudgment allowed Andreas Pereira to score, giving Fulham an unexpected lead at Anfield.
Just six minutes later, Robertson’s heavy touch gifted possession to Harry Wilson, who broke towards goal.
In his attempt to recover, Robertson fouled Wilson outside the box, resulting in a straight red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Liverpool were left with 10 men for the remainder of the match.
Although Cody Gakpo equalized in the second half, Rodrigo Muniz put Fulham ahead again in the 76th minute.
Just when it seemed Liverpool were heading for their second home defeat of the season, Diogo Jota salvaged a point with a late goal.
Following the game, Carragher urged Liverpool to address their left-back situation in January, suggesting Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a potential solution.
Carragher praised Kerkez’s aggressive style and impressive performances in the Premier League, noting that Liverpool’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes, played a role in bringing Kerkez to Bournemouth.
Speaking to *Sky Sports* (via *Daily Mail*), Carragher said:
“(Against Fulham) He doesn’t look like he’s running back fully. He got a knock earlier and was slow to control the ball before the red card.
He needs help. Liverpool have no real back-up at left-back, and that’s an issue they need to resolve in January.”
Carragher also highlighted Kerkez’s potential, stating:
“Kerkez has been outstanding at Bournemouth. He’s aggressive, looks like a proper full-back, and has adapted superbly to the Premier League. He’s definitely one to watch.”
Robertson’s struggles are not new this season. He gave away penalties against Southampton and Real Madrid recently, though Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher spared his blushes on both occasions.
While Robertson remains a key figure in Liverpool’s recent success and is beloved by fans, his current form has led to calls for the club to plan for a long-term replacement.
Kerkez is not the only name linked with Liverpool; Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has also been tipped as a potential future successor to Robertson.
