Slot was booked for showing frustration with referee Tony Harrington’s decision to caution Curtis Jones in the second half.
While Southampton may not pose a significant threat, Liverpool would certainly prefer to have their manager back to help them return to winning ways in the Premier League.
As for Andy Robertson, the good news for the left-back is that his red card suspension, given for denying a goalscoring opportunity after fouling Harry Wilson, was always going to be served in the League Cup.
The 30-year-old will miss the match against Russell Martin’s struggling Southampton team.
However, some comments after the 2-2 draw with Fulham have raised slight concerns about Robertson’s future availability.
