Rúben Amorim is set to take charge of Manchester United for the first time this weekend, as the team prepares to face Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The Portuguese manager steps into the role after Ruud van Nistelrooy’s solid interim spell, during which he managed to stabilize the team. Amorim’s appointment marks a new chapter for the club, with the pressure on him to begin his tenure positively.

Van Nistelrooy leaves behind a squad with renewed stability, having gone unbeaten in his short tenure. However, Manchester United remains in 13th place in the Premier League, enduring their worst-ever start to a season.

This challenging position highlights the enormity of the task facing Amorim, who will face an Ipswich Town side buoyed by a surprise victory over Tottenham.

The match also brings added intrigue with Kieran McKenna, a former Manchester United coach, now leading Ipswich.

Amorim has quickly implemented his tactical approach, opting for a dynamic 3-4-3 formation, but he faces challenges due to an injury crisis in defense.

With Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Lisandro Martínez unavailable, Amorim will rely on Matthijs de Ligt, veteran Jonny Evans, and rising star Leny Yoro. André Onana will provide stability in goal, helping manage the defense as it seeks to find its rhythm.

In the wing-back positions, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui will play crucial roles in both defense and attack. Midfield will feature a combination of Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro, offering experience and grit, while Bruno Fernandes will take on a more advanced role as the team’s primary playmaker.

Although Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen are still working towards full fitness, the creative burden will largely fall on Fernandes.

Up front, Amorim has a decision to make regarding his attacking options, with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad Diallo competing for a spot.

With Rashford’s form dipping and Garnacho’s inconsistency, Diallo, following an impressive loan spell at Sunderland, may get the nod. Rasmus Højlund is expected to lead the line, with Joshua Zirkzee providing depth and competition.

In his first press conference as manager, Amorim was determined, promising fans a team with a clear identity and style of play.

He acknowledged the challenge of limited training time but stressed the importance of restoring the team’s principles, character, and positional discipline to turn the season around.

This weekend’s match is significant as it marks Amorim’s debut as the youngest manager to take charge of Manchester United in over 50 years.

The pressure is high, with the team needing points and facing an Ipswich side full of confidence. Amorim’s ability to inspire his team will be tested, and the outcome of this match could set the tone for the rest of his tenure.
