In a rare display of unity, Liverpool, along with three other Premier League ‘big six’ clubs, has taken steps to protect its interests ahead of the verdict in Manchester City’s ongoing legal dispute with the Premier League.

Manchester City faces 115 alleged breaches of the league’s financial rules over a decade, accusations the club has repeatedly denied. The case, currently being reviewed by an independent commission, is expected to reach a verdict early next year.

Liverpool Files Legal Notice for Potential Compensation

According to *The Times*, Liverpool, along with Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham, has filed legal notices to reserve the right to seek compensation should Manchester City be found guilty.

These clubs aim to avoid being barred from claiming compensation due to the time that has passed since the alleged breaches were first reported.

The Liverpool Echo adds that Liverpool acted on legal advice to protect its position regarding potential damages. Lawyers warned the club about a six-year statute of limitations, as the Football Leaks documents exposing the alleged violations were first published on November 5, 2018, by *Der Spiegel*.

A Sensible Move by Liverpool

While the legal complexities of the case are intricate, Liverpool’s decision to act now rather than wait for the final verdict seems prudent.

The club seeks to safeguard its potential claims for losses, such as missing out on league titles or Champions League qualifications, due to Manchester City’s alleged financial misconduct.

Liverpool has twice finished just one point behind City in recent seasons, making it one of the clubs most affected by the situation. It is reasonable for the Merseyside club to ensure its rights are protected and justice served.

The final ruling in this high-profile case will be closely watched by all with a stake in English football.
