A journalist has highlighted a significant advantage that a Saudi Pro League club could use to speed up their pursuit of Mo Salah next year.
Currently, Salah’s contract with Liverpool runs until 30 June 2025, sparking considerable speculation about his future.
In the summer of 2023, Saudi club Al-Ittihad submitted a £150m bid to lure Salah to the Middle East, but Liverpool quickly rejected it (BBC Sport).
Al-Hilal eyeing an early move for Salah
Speaking on *White and Jordan* on talkSPORT on Monday, Ben Jacobs stated that Al-Hilal is now leading the race to bring Salah to the Saudi Pro League.
He added that Jorge Jesus’ team might attempt to sign the 32-year-old ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup next June.
Jacobs explained: “2025 is the target. Al Hilal is the club. The Saudi football federation plans to use FIFA’s exceptional window ahead of the Club World Cup, potentially enabling them to sign Salah between June 1 and 10, which would allow him to play in both the Saudi Pro League and the Club World Cup.”
Liverpool offers Salah a better chance at trophies
From Al-Hilal’s perspective, signing Salah before the expanded Club World Cup next summer would be a huge incentive, as the Saudi club is one of the 32 teams participating.
Salah has previously won the tournament with Liverpool in 2019 when they defeated Flamengo in the final in Qatar, during the same season they clinched the Premier League title.
Liverpool fans will undoubtedly hope that Salah renews his contract at Anfield well before Al-Hilal gets close to tempting him to Riyadh in time for the global competition in the USA.
Despite Al-Hilal’s interest, Salah is far more likely to win major trophies at Liverpool this season or next than to lift the Club World Cup with Jorge Jesus’ squad, so leaving Liverpool for that reason alone may not be a wise decision.
