Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has yet to sign a new contract with the club, and his future remains uncertain after reports emerged of interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old is enjoying an impressive start to the season under manager Arne Slot, who joined the team in early June.
Following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolves at Molineux Stadium, Liverpool currently sits atop the Premier League table with five wins in six matches.
In addition, the Reds are having a strong run in the Champions League, winning their first two matches against Italian teams.
They triumphed 3-1 against AC Milan away and secured a 2-0 victory against Bologna at Anfield on Wednesday.
Alexander-Arnold has been a key player in Liverpool’s success, starting 10 of the 11 matches so far.
The only game he missed was in the Carabao Cup round of 16, where he remained on the bench for the entire 90 minutes.
With his contract nearing its end, Real Madrid and manager Carlo Ancelotti have shown interest in signing the defender, especially given Dani Carvajal’s age and his contract expiring in the summer of 2025.
Fabrizio Romano, the well-known journalist, stated that while Real Madrid is not actively negotiating with Alexander-Arnold, they have maintained interest since March.
He added that the player still prefers to remain at his boyhood club, expressing a desire to win trophies and his happiness under Slot.
Romano also reassured Liverpool fans that Alexander-Arnold’s chances of staying at the club are greater than those of leaving.
Negotiations between the club’s board and the player will address the current project and future plans, as well as discussions about increasing his salary.
Trent made his debut for Liverpool on October 25, 2016, at just 18 years old.
He quickly established himself as a key player under Jurgen Klopp, helping the club win the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League during the 2020/2021 season, where they set a club record with 99 points.
As Arne Slot prepares his squad for this weekend’s match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, Alexander-Arnold’s future remains to be seen.
