Liverpool’s squad for the early part of the 2024-2025 season includes five promising young players of Nigerian descent: Emmanuel Airoboma (17), Louis Enahoro-Marcus (18), Lucky Omoruyi (18), Rio Ngumoha (16), and Folami Onanuga (18). All are eligible for the U21 team, as players under 21 do not count toward the Premier League’s 25-man squad limit.
Ngumoha, a recent transfer from Chelsea, has joined Liverpool’s U18s but has already trained with both the first team and development squad during the international break.
His move to Liverpool followed a thorough five-step evaluation process.
Onanuga and Omoruyi, who signed their first professional contracts last season, continue to develop at the club.
Enahoro-Marcus, a central defender from Benin City, and midfielder Airoboma are in their second year as academy scholars. All four have competed in the U18 Premier League, showcasing their potential.
Although none have yet featured in a Premier League matchday squad, these players represent Liverpool’s next generation of talent, following in the footsteps of former academy graduates like Jordon Ibe, Sheyi Ojo, and Ovie Ejaria, who progressed to the Premier League.
Their inclusion reflects Liverpool’s ongoing commitment to developing young talent and preparing them for future opportunities at the top level.
