Liverpool’s unsuccessful attempt to sign Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi has reportedly led them to explore other midfield options.

The Reds were eager to secure the 25-year-old playmaker, but Zubimendi’s decision to remain with his boyhood club meant manager Arne Slot missed out on his top target.

While Liverpool is close to finalizing a deal with Valencia for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to Fabrizio Romano, they have yet to sign a new midfielder.

With only eight days left before the transfer window closes, the Premier League club is running out of time to bring in a new number six.

However, there is still hope. A recent report from Fichajes suggests that Liverpool has identified an alternative target, although securing this deal may be just as challenging as the one for Zubimendi.

The report indicates that Slot is interested in signing Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, a deal that could exceed £100 million.

Newcastle, not wanting to lose their star player so close to the end of the transfer window, will demand a substantial fee. With four years remaining on the Brazilian’s contract, the club is in a strong position to retain him.

Nevertheless, as Guimaraes’s value continues to rise since his arrival from Lyon two-and-a-half years ago, Newcastle fans are likely to see increasing interest in their number 39 with each passing transfer window.

Since joining Newcastle, Guimaraes, who has earned 26 caps for Brazil, has scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in 108 appearances across all competitions.
