There remains a possibility that Manchester City might opt for an internal replacement for Julian Alvarez this month, making any external signings uncertain.

Oscar Bobb is the standout candidate, having been the most impressive player during the team’s preseason tour in the U.S. The 21-year-old Norwegian international contributed three assists and two goals in City’s four friendlies.

After making 26 appearances last season, mostly as a substitute, Bobb seems poised for a more prominent role, especially with his performances in Alvarez’s absence boosting his chances.

James McAtee also made a strong case, providing two assists against Chelsea and scoring in the Milan match. Nico O’Reilly took his chances in the remaining two games, assisting Bobb’s goal against Celtic and scoring against Barcelona.

Both McAtee and O’Reilly are expected to have a place in the starting lineup this season, while Phil Foden is anticipated to take on a bigger role than last year.

Among previous signings, Savinho is likely to get his chance in the Community Shield match against Manchester United. Claudio Echeverri, who spent last year on loan at River Plate, is also expected to join in January.

Pep Guardiola has indicated that the club would consider adding to the squad if a player leaves, but finding the right replacement before the month ends will be challenging.

Guardiola has mentioned that the team will largely remain the same as last year, so don’t expect many new signings beyond the initial £64 million investment or funds raised from the sales of Sergio Gomez, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle, and Yan Couto.
