Liverpool are aiming to sign a wide attacker this summer and have identified their target. New manager Arne Slot is set to make his first signing of the transfer window after taking over the club.
Despite their Premier League rivals making early moves in the transfer market, Liverpool have been patient in identifying their targets.
Now, they have received a major boost in their pursuit of Euro 2024 star Nico Williams, who scored in the final for Spain and helped them win the tournament.
According to Marca, Liverpool are keen to sign Williams, who had an impressive season with Athletic Bilbao.
The Reds have been tracking the Spaniard and are reportedly planning to make a move to acquire him.
Williams’ contract with Bilbao was extended until 2027, including a release clause of €55 million (£46m), which Liverpool can afford.
However, they face stiff competition from Barcelona, who also want to sign the 22-year-old to reunite him with Lamine Yamal, his international teammate.
Williams is known for his ability to take on defenders and create opportunities, making him an ideal addition to Liverpool’s attack.
Given his performance for Athletic Bilbao last season and for Spain in the European Championship, he would be a valuable signing at his current price.
