Mason Greenwood is expected to have many suitors this summer, as a departure from Manchester United seems almost certain
In February, Sir Jim Ratcliffe mentioned that a decision on Greenwood’s future had not yet been made, despite the club announcing in August that he would continue his career away from Old Trafford following fan opposition to his reintegration.
Greenwood has not played for the club since January 2022, when he was arrested on charges of attempted rape, assault causing actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behavior. These charges were dropped in February 2023, and Greenwood has always denied them.
MEN Sport reports that negotiations for Greenwood’s permanent departure from United are advancing, with only a year left on his contract. Juventus, Valencia, and Benfica are among the clubs interested in the 22-year-old.
Lazio is currently in talks, and United is negotiating with French club Marseille about a possible deal, sparked by interest during his loan spell in Spain last season.
Greenwood spent the season on loan at Getafe, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 36 games. The Spanish club is eager to arrange a return for him, with Greenwood expressing his happiness there last season.
Last week, Getafe manager Angel Torres hinted at Greenwood’s potential return, stating, “We expect to get positive news soon, and I hope he stays another year. It appears he will continue for another year. Every day brings new opportunities, but you must exercise caution.”
“I don’t want to return to Manchester United. The fans and staff rejected me there,” said Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood, expressing to Sir Jim Ratcliffe his desire to join a surprising Premier League club this summer.
