David Beckham is interested in bringing Raphael Varane, a former Manchester United player, to his Inter Miami team of stars.
Varane, 31, who left Manchester United after his contract expired at the end of the season, has been approached to join Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba at Chase Stadium next season.
During his injury-plagued three seasons at Manchester United, Varane cost the club £85 million in transfer fees and wages but only made 68 Premier League appearances.
However, Miami owner Beckham is willing to offer Varane another payday in the MLS to further boost the club’s profile.
Currently leading the MLS standings with 20 games played, Inter Miami has an open transfer window from July 18 to August 14, but Varane can sign now as a free agent.
Reuniting with some of his former opponents from his peak years will likely be enticing for Varane.
Despite his fitness issues, Varane was well-liked at United and played a part in their FA Cup final victory against Manchester City in his farewell game.
Before the final, which Erik ten Hag’s side won 2-1 thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, Varane sent a heartfelt message to United fans.
“It’s been an incredible few years playing for this unique club and wearing that shirt,” Varane said. “My first visit to Old Trafford as a Manchester United player was unforgettable; the atmosphere was incredible.
The memories fans create at Wembley Stadium are lasting. Sharing the moment of winning the Carabao Cup with them was incredible. Despite a tough season, I remain optimistic for the future.”
