Transfer news journalist Ben Jacobs recently addressed rumors about Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara potentially moving to Barcelona this summer.

In his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Jacobs clarified that Liverpool has no intention of selling Diaz and Barcelona’s financial constraints make such a move unlikely.

Jacobs highlighted that Diaz, a key player for Liverpool with a contract until 2027, is not for sale despite ongoing links to Barcelona.

While Diaz’s father has mentioned his son’s ambition to play in Spain, it does not reflect an immediate desire to leave Liverpool.

Barcelona’s financial struggles mean they would need to offload significant assets to afford Diaz. Jacobs noted that while Jules Kounde and Raphinha could be sold, neither player wishes to leave.

Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo are other potential sales, but significant financial adjustments are necessary before pursuing high-profile purchases like Diaz.

Regarding Thiago Alcantara, Jacobs explained that the veteran midfielder, set to leave Liverpool at the end of his contract, is still considering his options.

Although Thiago prefers to stay in Europe, no definitive decision has been made. Previous attempts by Saudi clubs to sign him in January were unsuccessful, and while he’s been linked to Barcelona, it’s too early to determine his next move.

Jacobs’ insights suggest that while Barcelona may appeal to Diaz in the future, financial hurdles and Liverpool’s firm stance make a transfer highly unlikely this summer.

Diaz remains focused on his role at Liverpool, continuing to contribute significantly. Meanwhile, Thiago’s future is uncertain, with his preference to stay in Europe guiding his decision-making process.
