Alexis Mac Allister proved to be Liverpool’s match-winner with a brilliant late goal that sealed a dramatic 1–0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
The Argentine midfielder struck deep into stoppage time, crushing Forest’s hopes and earning Liverpool three vital points in their chase for a top-four spot.
It was a night of mixed emotions for Mac Allister. Earlier in the game, he thought he had scored, only for the goal to be ruled out after a VAR review. Despite that disappointment, he stayed focused.
As the match moved beyond 90 minutes and seemed set to end in a draw, he stepped up in the seventh minute of added time to finally break the deadlock and spark wild celebrations among the away fans.
Nottingham Forest started strongly and almost scored within the first five minutes. Callum Hudson-Odoi burst through Liverpool’s defense, but Alisson Becker made an excellent save at close range. It was a warning sign for Liverpool, who struggled early on under Forest’s intense pressure.
Forest’s midfield duo, Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson, controlled much of the first half with their energy and smart passing. Liverpool, managed by Arne Slot, found it difficult to settle into the game and often looked rushed against Forest’s high pressing style.
At the back, Liverpool had to stay alert. Virgil van Dijk made an important recovery tackle to stop Igor Jesus in a dangerous moment, while Murillo tested Alisson again with a powerful effort from distance.
Liverpool’s preparations were also disrupted before kick-off when Florian Wirtz was ruled out during the warm-up, which seemed to affect the team’s early rhythm.
After the break, the game opened up and became more balanced. Liverpool began to create clearer chances. Curtis Jones came close after Mohamed Salah headed the ball across goal, but Forest goalkeeper Stefan Ortega reacted quickly to keep it out.
Forest defended well for most of the match, but their resistance was finally broken in the closing moments.
Mac Allister’s calm finish and determination made the difference, ensuring Liverpool left Nottingham with all three points and renewed belief in their push for Champions League qualification.
