Mohamed Salah has been tipped to turn down interest from Saudi Pro League clubs if he leaves Liverpool, with some believing he would prefer to stay in Europe.
Although the Egyptian forward hasn’t quite hit his usual heights this season, he is still attracting strong interest from the Middle East ahead of the summer transfer window.
One view is that Liverpool were right to keep faith in him, especially given how the club handles its players and managers.
Salah now has one year left on his contract. While he may not be at the exact same level as before — and has struggled to score from open play since Christmas last year — there is still a real possibility he could leave in the summer.
There are also questions about Liverpool’s wider plans. The club may need to sign at least one top-quality winger, someone capable of becoming a regular starter rather than just a squad option.
Salah could have moved a year or two ago but chose to stay. It’s unclear whether he wants to leave now, but a summer departure cannot be ruled out.
Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has suggested another possible destination — a return to Italy. He explained that Salah’s future will depend on whether Liverpool want a transfer fee and what wages he would demand.
Hamann also pointed out that Italian clubs often value experienced players more than teams in Germany or England.
He mentioned clubs like Inter and the Milan sides, noting their recent success, especially in the Champions League.
Salah previously played for Roma, and Hamann believes he may feel he has unfinished business in Serie A. A return to Roma, in particular, could make for a great story, especially as they have not been as competitive in recent years.
While Saudi Arabia may seem like the most obvious option, Hamann does not believe it is the only one. If it becomes clear that Salah could be available, other European clubs — especially in Italy — may show serious interest.
Back in 2023, Liverpool rejected a £150 million bid from Al Ittihad for Salah. With the summer window approaching, there is expected to be fresh speculation about whether Saudi clubs will try again to sign the Liverpool star.
