Supporters have reacted to Cody Gakpo’s performance in Liverpool’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday (March 2).
Jurgen Klopp’s team secured a crucial victory in a closely contested match at the City Ground, thanks to Darwin Nunez’s late winner scored in the ninth minute of stoppage time.
This win marked Liverpool’s first top-flight victory at Nottingham Forest in 40 years and their first in the Premier League era in seven attempts, ending a streak of three losses during this period.
Nunez’s vital goal added to his impressive tally of 10 goals and seven assists in the league this season. However, despite Nunez’s standout performance, fans were critical of his teammate Gakpo’s display.
Unhappy supporters took to social media platforms to voice their frustration with Gakpo’s performance. One fan tweeted, “I don’t want to see Gakpo starting again this season. Pathetic performance from him.
He’s had a season and a half, and he’s completely ineffective. Needs to be moved on for £30m in the summer.” Another echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Gakpo should never start for us again.”
Following his recent scoring streak, Gakpo was substituted in the 84th minute of the match. Since his arrival at Anfield in the summer of 2022, he has contributed 11 goals and five assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
However, Liverpool’s victory propelled them four points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table after 27 games, despite having played one more game than their title rivals.
