Luis Diaz’s future at Liverpool could hinge on whether the club succeeds in securing Mohamed Salah’s signature on a new contract.
Despite joining the Reds just over two years ago and proving to be an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking lineup, Diaz’s tenure at Anfield is reportedly uncertain, as per The Sun.
While Liverpool’s primary focus lies on finding Klopp’s successor, the contractual situations of key players like Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also of paramount importance.
With all three having just over a year left on their contracts, the next manager would likely prioritize retaining them.
Reports suggest that Salah has already agreed to a move to the Saudi Pro League, as stated by his compatriot and former Tottenham Hotspur striker, Mido. Van Dijk has also hinted at a potential exit, albeit retracting his statement later.
Given the significant financial implications of retaining Salah, Liverpool may opt to offload Diaz, especially with interest from clubs in Spain.
Despite Diaz’s recent resurgence after a challenging start to the season, Liverpool’s hierarchy is reportedly optimistic about the potential of emerging young talents like Jayden Danns and Harvey Elliot.
However, Liverpool’s ability to negotiate with players in precarious contractual situations is currently limited until a new sporting director is appointed. Efforts to bring back Michael Edwards to Anfield in the summer have been rekindled by the club.
