During the January transfer window, Nottingham Forest actively sought a new goalkeeper and made an offer to David De Gea to join them at the City Ground, according to The Athletic.

Unhappy with their current goalkeeping options, which included Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos, Forest explored possibilities with seven goalkeepers, including the experienced Spanish player.

Despite their efforts, De Gea declined the short-term offer from Nottingham Forest. Consequently, Forest signed Matz Sels in a transfer deal initially valued at £5.1 million.

David De Gea has been without a club since leaving Manchester United in the summer. Despite his long service to the Red Devils, the club chose not to renew his contract and opted for Andre Onana as his replacement.

However, Onana’s performances have been criticized for several costly errors leading to goals.

De Gea’s departure from Manchester United after nearly 12 years, during which he made over 500 appearances and won numerous trophies, left many, including the goalkeeper himself, feeling disheartened due to what they perceived as a lack of respect in the handling of his exit.
