Al-Ittihad midfielder N’Golo Kanté is open to a return to Chelsea — but only if three key conditions are satisfied.

Reuniting with N’Golo Kanté on a short-term loan until the end of the season — with his wages split — feels like a no-brainer. The real issue is whether Chelsea have any serious interest, and if they do, they should move quickly.

Even as he approaches 35, Kanté still boasts remarkable engine and intensity, along with the quality, pace, strength, and tenacity required to thrive in the Premier League.

So where have these links come from?

Reports suggest the former Chelsea midfielder could be available on a temporary basis this month, with Fenerbahçe monitoring his situation. However, that alone doesn’t point to Chelsea actively pursuing a reunion.

His name has merely surfaced as one of several midfield options the club might consider if the need arises — not as part of any concrete talks. Still, it’s hard not to think Chelsea should at least explore the idea.

There’s little doubt Kanté remains capable at the top level. His recent call-up to the French national team in November is proof he’s still performing at an elite standard.

His deep connection to Chelsea, love for the club, Premier League pedigree, and familiarity with current squad members all strengthen the case.

Imagining him alongside Moisés Caicedo — effectively passing the torch to his successor — would create a midfield shield few opponents would enjoy facing.

A move like this would also resonate with fans. Kanté would add experience, lead by example, guide younger players, and deliver relentless commitment every time he steps on the pitch.

If it’s simply a loan deal with shared wages, and assuming Kanté would welcome a return — which seems plausible — it feels like a straightforward opportunity.

For now though, there’s no sign Chelsea are actively working to bring him back.
