Manchester United icon David Beckham has asserted that he has connections with the right individuals to assume control of the club from the Glazer family. Last year, the Glazers indicated their willingness to explore various ownership alternatives, including a partial or complete takeover.
Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe submitted final bids earlier this year, but neither has received a response from the Glazers regarding their acceptance. Recent reports suggest Ratcliffe is considering a minority stake purchase in United. Ahead of the recent match against Brentford, United fans protested against the Glazers, renewing calls for a complete sale.
Beckham, attending the Formula 1 Qatari Grand Prix, shared his views on the takeover process with Sky Sports. Emphasizing the need for stability, he expressed his desire to see the club returned to its pinnacle. When asked about Sheikh Jassim’s bid, Beckham, a former ambassador for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, mentioned having preferred individuals to guide the club back to the top.
Additionally, Beckham conveyed sympathy for manager Erik ten Hag amid United’s challenging start to the 2023/24 season, acknowledging the off-field disturbances as a significant challenge. He expressed the collective desire for the disruptions to subside and decisions to be made for the benefit of the club, fans, players, and managers.
