Casemiro received a straight red card during the match against Southampton on Sunday following a VAR review, marking his second dismissal of 2023.
Initially shown a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor for a foul on Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor opted to upgrade the punishment to a red card after reviewing the incident on a pitchside monitor, deeming Casemiro’s play as irresponsible.
The Manchester United midfielder’s lunging challenge went over the ball, catching Alcaraz high on his ankle. As a result of this second EPL red card in 2023, Casemiro now faces a four-game suspension. Fortunately, Alcaraz was not injured in the incident.
