Reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s financial backing won’t rescue Manchester United in the January transfer market, posing a threat to Erik ten Hag’s hopes of strengthening the squad. To salvage a disappointing season, the Red Devils urgently require upgrades this winter, but generating funds through player sales will be crucial for any potential acquisitions.

Under Ten Hag’s management, nearly £400 million has been spent on new players across two summer transfer windows at Old Trafford. This spending has placed United in a precarious position concerning Financial Fair Play regulations, making significant adjustments unlikely in the upcoming year.

The Glazer family’s strategic review, initiated in November 2022, was initially expected to conclude by 2024. Following Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani’s withdrawal from the race in October, Ratcliffe emerged as the successful bidder after modifying his offer.
